TAMPA, FL – A driver was arrested Tuesday after crashing his Ford F-150 pickup into an apartment building on Carmen Court about 11:30 a.m., according to deputies. The driver was traveling eastbound on 140th Avenue E. when he lost control of his truck, left the roadway, hit a fence and then crashed into an apartment.

Inside the apartment, Yasiel Toledo-Ruiz was on a sofa in his living room and was thrown from the sofa during the incident, deputies said. Toledo-Ruiz was transported to Florida Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, identified as Marcellino Perez, 28, of Tampa, fled on foot. He was located about one mile from the crash. Two witnesses identified Perez as the driver. Perez has never had a driver’s license issued to him, deputies said. Perez provided a false name of Carlos Diaz, but was positively identified as Marcellino Perez by his fingerprint through the Rapid ID System.

Perez was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injury, no valid driver’s license and providing a false name to law enforcement officer.
